7 Books I’m Reading for This Year’s Literature Class + An Announcement

I love reading, but I am terrible about getting off my bum and reading important, weighty books. You know, hard books. Books that are over a thousand years old. Or books that wrestle with tough questions. Or books that delve into the darkness of the human soul.

If left to my own devices, I’d just read Shakespeare comedies and C.S. Lewis (whose writings, although complex, are quite readable) all the time. That’s why I appreciate literature classes: they push me into books that I’d never read otherwise.

It’s no secret around here that I love As You Like It. It’s mentioned on my home page and about page. I talked about it when I did the “If Books Were Movies” tag, and Orlando ranks at the top of my list of Shakespearean boyfriends.

Like many people raised in the evangelical Christian church, I attended a Christian summer camp throughout my middle school years. Like most Christian summer camps, this one had a dress code for girls: no two-piece swimsuits, no super-short shorts (Nike shorts were fine), and no revealing tops.

5 Things I Learned from Camp NaNoWriMo

Well, folks, it was a wild ride, but I did it. I survived July Camp NaNoWriMo! In fact, I even met my goal!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Camp NaNo, it’s an event hosted by National Novel Writing Month (a website where you can track your progress while you try to write a 50K-word novel during the month of November). Every April and July, you can join a “cabin,” or writing group, of up to 20 other writers and set your own goal of hours, minutes, words, or pages. This was my fourth time participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, my third time winning, and my fourth time hosting a cabin. Here are 5 things I’ve learned in all my camping experience.

When I started blogging, I went in with no idea if I’d ever get any followers. I couldn’t have guessed that so many amazing, supportive people would click the follow button! Not only that, but you guys leave the best comments. You give me way more “audience participation” than might be expected of a blog three times this size. I am incredibly grateful for the wonderful blogging community I’ve found through Remnants of Wit!
